NEWS: Causeway Challenge 2013 is off.
Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) and Singapore (FAS) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (they signed a lot of that) for the annual two-legged tie Malaysia vs Singapore in July 2011.
As for this year, it’s scheduled on June 4 and 7.
However, it is not happening.
FAM said they were not sure if the Causeway Challenge is on as scheduled because they have not received any response from the FAS….and then they arranged for the team to play three friendly games in Canberra and Sydney, Australia instead.
They are scheduled to play Canberra All Stars, Maricon Stallions and Sydney Olympic. WHAT? Not even A-League teams? OK.
FAS then released a statement saying on May 22, FAM informed them that they will not be able to play in the Causeway Challenge this year due to the unavailability of the first and second team of the Malaysia National Team – on the same day, FAM released the 26-player list that have been called up to the national team training camp.
Singapore have replaced the Causeway Challenge with friendly matches against Myanmar and Laos next month.
Isn’t it funny? FAM said the Malaysia National Team is not available. What does that mean? The league is on break for a month, no?
I have also heard rumours that it’s the coach who does not want to play Singapore. Not ready, unprepared, or what….we don’t know.
The question is, why the clash of statements between FAM and FAS there. I thought they signed an MoU. Where’s the ‘understanding’ here?
